How do I add the library chat and resource page to my Canvas course?
Answer
By default, all courses have a course navigation item called Miner Memorial Library. When students click on this navigation item, they will be able to access our chat to ask their research questions, search our FAQs, see information about upcoming workshops and other events, access databases and other resources, and more!
Make sure that the navigation item is VISIBLE to your students. By default, it is visible in your navigation, but if you've copied over another course where it wasn't visible, those settings take precedence. In your Course Settings area, go into the Navigation Menu section and make sure to drag the Miner Memorial Library item up into the items your students can see.
If you have a discussion board titled Ask-A-Librarian that has been copied from previous semesters – that is NOT being monitored. Please delete any instances of these discussion boards that you come across, and direct your students to the navigation item instead. You can use the course links functionality to link to it from anywhere in your course you like, so if you are writing out a research assignment, you can tell them to click on the navigation, and/or link to it right in the directions.
