How do I find a journal in my discipline?

Answer

There are three methods you can use to find a journal in your discipline.

  • Browse Journals by Discipline - In this list, journals are grouped by broad discipline (Business & Economics, Social Sciences, etc.) and then into more specific sub-categories (Agricultural Economics, Recreation & Sports, etc.).  This page can be accessed at the link below, or in the Research section of the library's website, in the Articles and Databases area.  Look for the box called Journal Title Quick Search.

  • Use the Journal Title Quick Search box (pictured above) to search for a word related to your discipline.  This will search the titles of all journals we have access to for that word.  This means that if you search for the word nursing, Nurses Quarterly won't show up, because it has the word nurses, not the word nursing.  This means that you may want to try a variety of different words and forms of those words that are related to your discipline.  That search box can be found on the Articles and Databases section of the Research page on the library's website, which is linked below.

  • Another option is to choose a database related to your discipline, and search for articles about a topic relevant to your discipline.  Remember to make sure the Full-Text limiter button is checked.  Look and see which journals those articles are published in, and if you see one that is repeated often, that might be a good choice as a journal for your project.
